Raising the Roof

— February 29th, 2012

We are delighted to announce the recent achievement of a Wandsworth Design Award for the new theatre and assembly space at Broomwood Hall School.  The project won the category for Conservation & Restoration for it’s sympathetic development of this Grade II Listed building to provide a much-needed multi-purpose hall in the confined roof space with no visible impact from street level.

Sixteen schemes were shortlisted in the competition, which invited architects, consultants, stakeholders and residents to nominate innovative and inspiring design projects completed within the last two years.  Projects included in the Awards are varied, from residential extensions, restorations, new buildings, public spaces, sustainable buildings and landscaping, and highlight the excellent standard of design and contribution to architecture across the borough.

The schemes were judged by a panel made up of local residents with an interest in design, architects, Councillors, representatives of amenity societies and Wandsworth Access Association, and the Awards presented by The Mayor of Wandsworth, Councillor Mrs Jane Cooper.

The awards evening was a great success, generously hosted by Broomwood Hall School, and gave us the opportunity to meet with other winners and witness this striking space in use.
