Building Schools for the Future, London Borough of Newham

The Practice was appointed by London Borough of Newham to carry out feasibility studies for six secondary schools (Lister Community School, Little Ilford School, Plashet School, New Stratford School, New Rokeby School, Langdon School) for the Building Schools for the Future programme.

These studies analysed the site restrictions, planning constraints and accommodation requirements affecting redevelopment. Interviews were conducted with all key stakeholders, including staff and pupils, to bring together the needs of all those concerned to transform the education experience for pupils and teachers alike. The school accommodation was analysed against BB98 and the shortcomings highlighted. Strategic layouts were formulated with fully costed recommendations as to whether the school should be rebuilt or extended and refurbished.
